Beat Beat Revolution (shorthand BBR) is a software that, much like a metronome, helps people work on their rhythm. Unlike classical metronomes, however, BBR leaves out the guesswork by giving you feedback to let you know if you are on the right track.
Beat Beat Revolution’s features
BBR comes with the following challenges so you can improve your rhythm:
On-beat challenge
In this challenge, a metronome will play a beat at the BPM of your choice. You have to press ENTER every time you hear it. To make things harder, you can mute some of the beats so that you must press ENTER when you feel them instead of when you hear them.
On-pulse challenge
In this challenge, a metronome will play a beat at the BPM of your choice. You have to press ENTER every time you hear the beat and press A every time you feel the subdivision of your choice (1/8, 1/8T and 1/16).
On-tempo challenge
In this challenge, there is no metronome. Instead, you play a song of your choice and press ENTER every time you hear the beat. This challenge does not verify if you are on the beat, but rather if you are able to keep a tempo.
All challenges can be customized to make them easier or harder. For instance, you can specify:
- How long should the challenge lasts;
- Whether you want to get feedback throughout the challenge or only at the end;
- How far from the target beat or subdivision you are allowed to be;
- How far from the target tempo you are allowed to be.
Accuracy matters
BBR has been developed to be as accurate as possible. However, with so many hardware and operating systems out there, it is virtually impossible to ensure accuracy out-of-the-box. This is why BBR comes with a few tools to check the software’s accuracy and calibrate it. I highly recommend that you use them. They are not as user-friendly as I would like them to be, so please watch the video tutorial below:

Beat Beat Revolution is only available on Windows (64-bit). It can be downloaded by clicking on the following button:
If there is enough interest, BBR will be ported to Mac and Linux. No versions for Android or iPhone are currently planned.
Frequently asked questions
When I run some of the challenges, other applications are unable to play audio. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal. For some of the challenges, BBR requests exclusive access to the audio. This is done to ensure maximal accuracy as BBR doesn’t have to compete with other applications for audio.
How can I make sure that BBR is as accurate as possible?
Be sure to use the calibration tools included with the software. Also, close as many applications as possible so that BBR doesn’t have to compete with them for the computer’s resources. If you BBR’s accuracy is not as good as you want it to be, please write to me at contact@pascal-bergeron.com so I can look into it.
