How to Scan Your Computer for Jaxx Liberty Wallet Files

Jaxx Liberty was a popular cryptocurrency wallet that was available as a desktop application, mobile application, and browser extension. It supported not only Bitcoin and Ethereum, but many other altcoins as well.

Many early users may have used Jaxx Liberty years ago to store their digital assets but have since forgotten where their wallet files are located. If you are trying to find these files to regain access to your crypto, you have two options: you can search for them manually or use an automatic tool.

The manual way

The manual approach involves searching your storage devices for specific data fragments left behind by the software.

If you used the mobile application, you will need to jailbreak your phone to find the wallet file. However, jailbreaking is a complex process that varies depending on your phone’s model and operating system. Because it also voids your warranty and poses significant security risks, it is outside the scope of this article.

If you used the desktop application or the browser extension, you need to search your computer for a folder whose name matches one of the following keywords:

  • jaxx
  • com.liberty.jaxx
  • ancbofgphhmhcchnaognahmjfajaecmo

Inside these folders, you are looking for Chromium database fragments. These are files that typically end with one of the following extensions and contain your wallet data:

  • .log
  • .ldb

You may also want to search for a file that contains the keyword ancbofgphhmhcchnaognahmjfajaecmo. If its name ends with .localstorage, it is likely to contain your wallet data.

Regardless of the version you used, you can also look for the seed phrase given to you when you created your wallet. A seed phrase is comprised of 12 to 24 random words, such as: ugly law habit verb board remember guard during today cave truck rival. If you find this phrase, you can import it back into Jaxx Liberty or another compatible wallet to regain access to your funds.

The automatic way

The manual method has several significant failings. It is extremely time-consuming and error-prone. It is easy to miss your wallet among a multitude of files, and you may have used a version of the software that stored files differently than the most common versions. Furthermore, manual searching usually fails if you renamed or moved your files to hide them, and it does not scale if you need to check multiple computers.

This is why I created Treasure Hunter. It automates the search process and is far more effective than the manual way.

  • Advanced detection: It is designed to detect wallet files even if you have tried to hide them by renaming or moving them.
  • Versatile scanning: It works on a wide variety of storage devices, including HDDs, SSDs, USB keys, SD cards, CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs.
  • Cross-platform: Treasure Hunter works on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
  • Free to start: You can scan your storage devices for free to see what the software can find.

Instead of doing the heavy lifting yourself, let Treasure Hunter find your lost digital wealth.
