Crypto.com Onchain & Desktop Wallet is a non-custodial wallet software available as a mobile app, desktop app and extension for Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome, Opera, Edge and Brave. It should not be confused with the regular Crypto.com app, which is a custodial wallet where Crypto.com controls your private keys. With the Onchain & Desktop Wallet, you own your private keys, giving you full control over your funds.
If you used this wallet software years ago to store your cryptocurrencies but have since forgotten where the wallet files are located, you may be wondering how to retrieve them. The good news is that you have two options: you can search for the wallet files manually, or you can use an automated tool to find them for you.
The manual way
If you used the mobile application, finding your wallet files will be extremely difficult. You will need to jailbreak your phone, which is a complex process that varies depending on your device model and operating system. Moreover, jailbreaking voids your warranty and poses serious security risks. For these reasons, this approach is not recommended.
If you used the desktop application or browser extension, you can search your computer for a folder with one of the following names:
chain-desktop-wallethifafgmccdpekplomjjkcfgodnhcelljchrome-extension_hifafgmccdpekplomjjkcfgodnhcellj_0.indexeddb.leveldb
If you find such a folder, look inside it for files with the extension .log or .ldb. These files should contain your
wallet data, although extracting and decrypting the information will require technical expertise.
Alternatively, you can try to locate the seed phrase that was given to you when you created your wallet. A seed phrase consists of a list of words (commonly 12, 18 or 24) that functions as a recovery password to restore your wallet and regain access to your funds. It looks like this:
shove tank snack toward produce knock battle garbage buzz smart match father mammal twice rule swing exit pitch any wheat love term oyster reform
If you find your seed phrase, you can import it into the Crypto.com Onchain & Desktop Wallet or another compatible wallet to regain access to your funds.
The automatic way
As you can see, the manual approach has significant drawbacks. It’s time-consuming, error-prone, and in the case of mobile applications, practically impossible without technical expertise and risky phone modifications. Even with the desktop or browser versions, you could easily miss your wallet files among the multitude of folders on your computer. Additionally, if you used a different version of the software or moved your wallet files to a custom location, the standard search keywords won’t help.
